Dena McKee is a southern artist with a flair for catpuring memories on paper. Her studio is located in Moss Point, Mississippi in her waterfront home on the Gulf
Coast. Following high school in Morgan City, Louisiana, Dena attended University of Southern Mississippi where she received her degree in education. While in
college, she studied art and continued after college with private classes and workshops throughout the Mississippi.
Dena's motivation for painting nostalgic icons of the coast are the memories of her husband, Don, who grew up in Pascagoula. She enjoys evoking memories in the viewer that go beyond the paint and paper. An abandoned high school, a legendary drive-in or a carnival parade from days gone by capture the viewers and make her a popular artist in South Mississippi. Dena takes great interest in the subjects she paints by researching them historically and collecting various old photographs, "When I finish a painting of a
building, I can practically rebuild that building board for board in my head. I feel like I know it personally and we have a secret between us."
