Robert Wells, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Wells, Sr. is a native of Moss Point, Mississippi. Following graduation from Moss Point High School, Robert attended the University of Southern Mississippi on a football scholarship and receiving a BFA degree in art.
Although he has used oils and other media in the past, Robert has chosen acrylics as his preferred media for his photo-realistic style of painting. Robert credits Dr. Charles Ambrose and Dr. Bario of U.S.M. for his strong background in basics of art. "When I do a painting, no matter how thorough the detail, space and atmosphere are most important in a landscape. Space and air are a real challenge when painting a sky with clouds. I try to pay attention to both the transparent and the reflecting qualities of water," replied Robert when asked what was his philosophy of art.
Robert has many paintings in print, all of which are available in the Mississippi Gulf Coast area. His painting "Lovers Lane, Moss Point", was selected for a 1996 calendar for national distribution by Colsons Printing Company of Valdosta,GA.
Many of Robert's original paintings and prints are located private collections in the United States, Italy and Sweden.
